Frequently asked questions

How does Just a Baby work?

You sign up with your Google or Facebook account. Then you make a profile and say who you are and what you hope for. Next you look through other people's profiles. Swipe right if you like someone, left if you don't. When two people both swipe right, it's a match, and you can start chatting. From there you decide together, at your own pace, whether you have a future as a family.

Who uses Just a Baby?

Anyone thinking about having a baby, and people who'd love to help someone else have one. Members are gay and straight, single and partnered, men and women. The community is centered on the possibility of family. People come hoping for different things: a co-parent, a known dad, a partner to start a family with, someone to help, or someone to help them. Whatever it becomes later, surrogacy, egg donation or a known donor, it starts here with two people meeting.

What is a helper?

Helper is our word for someone who wants to help another person become a parent without raising the child. That might be a man with sperm or a woman with eggs to give. Here, helpers meet the people they help, so you talk before anything's decided. Some helpers stay in the child's life in a way everyone agrees on. Some step back. And helper is only our word. Families pick their own: known donor, donor dad, sperm daddy, egg mom, auntie, or a first name. That's theirs to choose, not ours.

Can I find a surrogate or an egg donor on Just a Baby?

You can meet the people. Women who have thought about helping someone that way use the app too, and here you get to know them as people first, long before anyone talks about eggs or carrying. That order matters to us. Just a Baby doesn't arrange surrogacy or egg donation, and nobody here is listed or on offer. If two people who met here want to go further, they take it to a lawyer, a doctor and a clinic of their choosing. We're the step before all that. See our pages on meeting someone before surrogacy and before egg donation.

Can couples join Just a Baby?

Yes. Couples are welcome to meet people here. Lesbian and gay couples come looking for someone who could help with sperm or an egg. Just a Baby is for you whether you're single or have a partner.

Do I need to know exactly what I want before I join?

No. Some members know exactly what they want. Some are still working it out. Say what you're doing now. Say what you might be open to later. Say what you won't do. It's fine to change your mind as you learn more about yourself and the people you meet.

Can I meet people in another country?

Yes. You can match with people around the globe, and you can change your location in the app settings. Meeting someone far away adds plenty to talk through, from travel to where a child would grow up. Take your time, and get proper advice before you make plans together.

What makes a good profile?

An open, honest profile that tells your story tends to attract more people. Say who you are, what you hope for and what kind of arrangement you have in mind. Be clear about your boundaries too. When people can see what you want, the right ones find you more easily, and the wrong ones can move on.

Does Just a Baby cost anything?

Downloading the app, making a profile, looking at profiles and chatting with your matches are all free. Just a Baby+ is an optional paid subscription with extra features. Cancellations go through the App Store or Google Play.

How do I stay safe on Just a Baby?

Take your time. Get to know someone in the app before you share personal details or arrange to meet. Trust your instincts if something feels wrong. Our Privacy and Safety page explains how we look after your information, and what you can do to stay safe.

What should we agree before having a baby together?

More than most people expect. Talk about the role each of you will play, and how involved you'll each be. Talk about where the child will live, and how you'll share decisions. Keep going until you both understand it the same way. Just a Baby doesn't give legal or medical advice. So once you agree, take it to a lawyer and a doctor before you go ahead.

Can I find a sperm donor on Just a Baby?

You can meet men who want to help someone have a baby, and men who'd like to be a dad. Just a Baby isn't a bank, and we don't list or sell anyone. You meet people as people, talk it through and decide together what you each want.

What happens when I delete my account?

Deleting your account permanently deletes your matches, conversations, likes and personal details. If you pay for Just a Baby+, cancel the subscription through the App Store or Google Play as well. Cancellations go through the stores.
