Before surrogacy, meet someone

Looking for how to find a surrogate? Start earlier. Just a Baby is where people meet and get to know each other first. Not an agency, not a clinic.

Most of what you’ll read about surrogacy begins with agencies, contracts and clinics. We think it begins with two people who haven’t met yet. This page is about that part.

Just a Baby is an app where people who are thinking about family meet. Some hope to be parents. Some would love to help a family happen. Whether that ever includes carrying a baby is a conversation two people have once they know each other, not a box on a profile. Nobody here is a listing, and nobody is on offer. You meet people as people, and you find out who they are before you find out what they might do.

Just a Baby is not a surrogacy agency, and it is not a clinic. It is the step before either.

Meet the person first

Surrogacy is one of the biggest things one person can do for another. It is also, strangely, one of the few where the two people often meet last, after the paperwork. We think that is backwards.

So do this first. Make a profile that says who you are and what you hope for. Look around. Say hi to people you’d like to know. Talk, and keep talking. Meet a few people. Meet a lot of people. Somewhere in there you might meet your person, and you’ll know, because you’ll have talked about everything that matters long before anyone mentions a form.

If you’re a woman who has wondered about carrying for someone, the same goes for you. You can say as much or as little as you like about that, along with what you’re comfortable with and what you’re not. Then meet the people. You choose who you talk to, and you can stop at any point. Nobody is counting, and nobody is in a hurry.

What you’ll talk about

The good conversations happen early, and they’re ordinary ones. Why do you want a family? Why would you want to help someone have one? What would you each hope for during a pregnancy, and after? Would you stay in touch? What would you tell the child one day?

Nobody has to label anything, either. Surrogate is the word people search for. Families often end up with another one, or just a name. That’s for you to work out between you, now and later. Our job is the introduction.

What Just a Baby does and doesn’t do

It helps you meet, talk and get to know each other. That’s the whole job, and we take it seriously.

If two people who met here decide they want to explore surrogacy together, that’s the moment to bring in the professionals: a lawyer where each of you lives, a doctor, and whichever clinic or agency you choose. We’re all for it. If we can help you find your way to them, we’ll do our best. Everything from that point on belongs to you and to them.

Before you agree anything

Carrying a baby for someone is a big thing to ask and a big thing to offer. Before you agree anything at all, talk to a lawyer and a doctor where you live, and make sure everyone involved does the same. Talk about what each of you expects during the pregnancy and after the birth. Talk about staying in touch, and how. Agree it clearly, and only once everyone is sure.

Then, if you like, come back and tell us how you met. We love those stories.

Anyone having a baby with anyone should talk to a lawyer and a doctor. Just a Baby introduces you. The rest is yours.
