Our Story
The idea for Just a Baby took shape in Australia in twenty sixteen. It was a simple one. People who want to make a family should be able to find each other.
Where it started
Paul Ryan, our founder, kept hearing from men and women who needed help to have a baby. Some needed sperm. Some needed eggs. Some needed a woman who’d carry a child for them. The paths that existed felt complicated and heavy.
Paul decided it was time to break the old pattern of how families are created and how children are conceived. The answer was an app with one purpose. Help people find other people to have a baby with, and start talking it through.
What we set out to do
Most people see this as complicated and heavy. We wanted the first steps to be easy, open and, dare we say it, fun. Instead of leaving something this important to chance, Just a Baby lets people meet and talk honestly about what they need and what they want.
The idea was always simple. Download the app and set up a profile. In a couple of taps you’re among people who want a family too, close to home or on the other side of the world. People joined with a name, a birthday and a rough location. Then they said what they could bring to the table: sperm, an egg, an embryo or a womb.
From the start, Just a Baby was for many kinds of people. Women and men looking for someone to have a baby with. Lesbian and gay couples looking for sperm or an egg. Single people hoping for an embryo, a womb or a partner. Our motto said it plainly: Find People, Make Babies.
Growing together
Along the way, people who believed in what we were doing backed us early. We’re grateful to every one of them.
Our mission is to give people a friendly place to meet, talk and decide together. We believe everyone should have the chance to start or grow a family, whatever their circumstances. And we want people to feel free to explore the many ways of building one.
What we believe now
Men and women want to have babies. The rituals that once brought people together have worn away. Just a Baby is here to help close that distance. A baby takes people who trust each other, and a whole lot of love. We know now that kids often want to know both their parents. So we encourage people to think about finding a dad their child can know.
We embrace all sorts of arrangements. Sometimes you find what you weren’t looking for.
